Welcome to our Impact Report! We are excited to highlight the ongoing positive impact that Thomaston Savings Bank, our Foundation, and our employees have championed throughout 2024.

Each year, we continue to dedicate ourselves to enhancing our communities through volunteer efforts, financial wellness initiatives, and community projects.

We are delighted to celebrate numerous employee achievements and recognize our Can Do Crew’s hard work in making our community a better place to work and live. Through its annual grant cycle and additional giving opportunities, our Foundation remains an instrumental part of driving positive change throughout our footprint.

More Than Bankers

Our employees are at the forefront of our impact. They regularly step up to answer unmet needs throughout the community and work alongside other community leaders. We are thrilled to recognize their impact and achievements.

Can Do Crew

The Thomaston Savings Bank Can Do Crew is made up of employee volunteers who donate their time inside and outside office hours to give back to the community. Employees participated in an outstanding 46 projects over the course of the year.

Denim Days

The Bank's Denim Days initiative allows employees to wear jeans on Fridays for a small donation to preselected local non-profits in our community. While employees raised $15,375, the Bank contributed an additional $12,000 to broaden the reach throughout our footprint.

United Way

Thomaston Savings Bank is proud to support local United Way organizations in their efforts to provide basic needs, education, and financial stability to every person in the community.

Annual Workplace Campaign

Bank employees donated more than $55,000 to the United Way’s Annual Workplace Campaign. Eighteen departments and branches had 100% participation, showing their commitment to the United Way’s pledge and supporting their mission.

As we look back on the last 150 years with gratitude and pride, we reminisce on initiatives that brought us closer to our community. These opportunities allowed our employees to come together and reaffirm our dedication to serving our neighbors.

The Great Give

Thomaston Savings Bank hosted The Great Give 150 initiative to commemorate the Bank’s 150th anniversary and offer employees a voice in giving back to the community. The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation allocated $150 to each employee to donate to a charity of their choice within the Bank’s footprint. Through this initiative, the Foundation donated over $33,000 to 109 organizations.

2024 Grant Cycle

To best serve the community the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation hosts its grant cycle in three phases, considering applications from local nonprofit and government agencies in support of the following focus areas: arts & culture, community development, education and youth services, health and human services, and public safety.

Fuel Assistance

Last year, the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation awarded $33,000 in fuel assistance grants to 11 organizations throughout the community. These grants provide financial support to those unable to afford essential utilities throughout the year, especially in the winter months.

Accessibility

Thomaston Savings Bank is dedicated to providing our clients with the products and services they need to achieve their financial goals. We regularly assess our product offerings to ensure we broaden our reach across our community.

Uncommon Account

Thomaston Savings Bank launched the Uncommon Account in 2021, the first Bank On certified product offered by a Connecticut mutual community bank. This unique account requires $10 to open, has no minimum balance requirement, no minimum balance or monthly maintenance fee, and most noteworthy, overdraft or non-sufficient fund fees will never be assessed. The Bank opened 440 Uncommon Accounts in 2024.

First-Time Homebuyer Program

The First-Time Homebuyer and First-Time Homebuyer Plus programs assist those who are buying homes in low- and moderate- income census tracts, or low- and moderate-income individuals purchasing homes in any of the Bank's communities. Program highlights include a 3% minimum down payment, no P.M.I (Private Mortgage Insurance), non-traditional or limited credit history and more. In 2024, 81 new homebuyers took advantage of these great programs.

Financial Wellness & Education

iFi University

Thomaston Savings Bank's iFi University is a free online tool that offers financial resources including articles, courses, infographics, and more. This platform encourages users to better their financial wellness through a library of different informative topics. In addition to utilizing iFiU for educational outreach programs, the Bank has teamed up with local agency partners to help those who are struggling with their financial wellness.

With Credit Sense, our free credit monitoring tool, clients get access to the following through Online and Mobile Banking.

  • Monitor key changes to your credit file with alerts
  • Receive an ongoing analysis of the factors impacting your credit score and resources to help you improve
  • Take a free financial checkup that provides a personalized financial recap here

Financial Literacy Workshops

Thomaston Savings Bank employees have hosted a total of 27 financial literacy workshops throughout the community, reaching 871 individuals. These workshops include various topics including fraud prevention, senior wellness, basic financial literacy and more. Employees are eager to get involved and educate the community in hopes that our clients will feel capable of achieving their financial goals and dreams.
